The Roman Catholic Church of St. Wilfrid
in Hulme was designed by A. W. Pugin. It
was consecrated in 1842 and served as
parish church of the RC parish of Hulme,
in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Salford,
until deconsecrated in 1990. The building
is now a centre for small businesses. The
baptism and marriage registers were
subsequently deposited at the Lancashire
Record Office.
Members of the Irish Ancestry Branch of
Manchester & Lancashire FHS have, by
kind permission of the Diocese, tran-
scribed details of 27,312 baptisms (1842-1907) and
4,252 marriages (1844-1916) recorded in the earlier
registers.
The transcripts provide full details as
contained in the registers and also indexes
to all of the names which are recorded,
including baptismal godparents and mar-
riage witnesses.
